What changed

Etsy's updated listing-image rules ask most listings to include at least one unedited photo of the actual item on a real background. That means no filters, background swaps or AI touch-ups on that photo. Every photo has to show what the buyer really gets.

Why it matters

Etsy says it will flag suspected AI images and expand enforcement over the coming months. A buyer who gets something that looks different from your photos can also open a "not as described" case, and you may owe the refund.

The problem

If you have 80, 300 or 2,000 listings full of styled mockups, there's no screen in Shop Manager that shows which ones are missing a real photo. Clicking through them one by one takes days.

How it works

1

Download your listings file

In Shop Manager go to Settings → Options → Download Data and click Download CSV under "Currently for Sale Listings". It takes about 20 seconds.

2

Drop it in

We read it right in your browser and flag likely problems automatically: a single photo, mockup or render wording, AI mentions (so you can check your disclosure), and patterns or recipes that need a photo of a finished result.

3

Tap the real photo

See every listing's photos side by side. Press 1–9 to mark the unedited one, or R for "needs a reshoot". You get a printable list of photos to take.

Built for sellers who'd rather be making things

  • Private by design. Your listings never leave your device. There's no account to make and nothing is uploaded.
  • Knows the different rules. Print-on-demand mockups and digital downloads need a different kind of image. We tag them so you don't reshoot what you don't need to.
  • Prioritised. The list of photos to take starts with your highest-priced listings, so the first afternoon covers what matters most.
  • Saves as you go. Close the tab and come back tomorrow. Your marks are kept on this device.
  • Printable shot list to take to your photo corner, plus a CSV of every listing's status.

Free. No limits.

Every listing, the printable list of photos to take, and the CSV export. No account, no upload, no catch.

Questions

Can it tell whether a photo was edited or AI-generated?

No tool can do that reliably from a thumbnail, and we won't pretend to. We flag the listings most likely to be missing a real photo using your titles, descriptions, tags and photo counts. Then you confirm each one with a single keypress. You know your photos; we make checking them fast.

Is my shop data uploaded anywhere?

No. The CSV is read by JavaScript in your browser tab. Your marks are saved in your browser's local storage on this device. Photo thumbnails load straight from Etsy's image servers, just as they do in your shop.

Do I need to connect my Etsy account?

No. You use the listings file Etsy already lets you download. We never see your login and can't change anything in your shop.

Is there a deadline?

Etsy hasn't given a cut-off date for existing listings. It says it is testing enforcement and will expand removals over the coming months. Read our plain-English summary of the rule.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every listing, the printable list of photos to take, and the CSV export are all free, with no account. There's an optional "chip in" button if you want to support it.
